Adults Running Girl Scout Troop Pass On Their Favorite Value: Bigotry!
7 year-old Bobby Montoya, who may best be described as a gender fluid and/or questioning child, wanted to join a Colorado-based Girl Scout troop. The organization’s official policy says nothing about genitalia, and specifically states that if a child identifies as a girl, that child is welcome to join Girl Scouts.
But the three scout leaders of this particular troop, all of whom were affiliated with a conservative Christian school in Louisiana, disagreed with the policy and opted to dissolve the group rather than treat Bobby with respect and compassion. So now, not only have these adults passed on the value that it’s alright to discriminate against people who are different, but they have now denied the Girl Scout experience to even more girls.
I recommend delving into the horrifyingly ignorant comments on this article…the bigots are out in droves and it would be nice to push them back a bit from picking on a seven year old.
