If you actually understood ANYTHING about Catholicism you wouldn’t have anything to say.
clearly, you are ignorant.
I will educate you.
What the Catholic Church teaches is what Catholicism is.
People miss the mark. A lot. Humans are sinful.
That means that all human beings should strive to be better.
If you REALLY cared about intellectual honesty and not just attacking my church, you WOULD care about what the church teaches and realize that just because not everyone who calls themself a Catholic goes along with the teachings does not render the teachings invalid.
There’s a LOT that you don’t know about. Like new procedures implemented (at least in my parish) designed to prevent child abusers from getting anywhere near children. (such as having to attend training sessions in how NOT to abuse children, having to fill out mounds of paperwork, etc)
You don’t have to care about my church, but you should care about me as a human being and my right to freedom of religion.
Forcing the Catholic church to fund birth control goes against that very tenent. No one is stopping secular organizations from providing it in their insurances.
Get your facts straight.
Here’s the thing.
I don’t NEED to understand anything about Catholicism, because I have the fantastic luxury of being an atheist in a secular nation. Your right to practice your religion does not extend to your right to push it down my throat, or my obligation to know one thing about it if I don’t want to.
And I don’t! Because I don’t give a shit about religion. And I don’t believe in a god. And I don’t believe that health insurance companies should stop funding blood transfusions and pharmaceutical drugs because Seventh Day Adventists and Christian Scientists exist (and I’m pretty sure you don’t either).
Also, why don’t you get YOUR facts straight:
- Tons of Catholic employers ALREADY cover contraception even though it wasn’t required until recently. Oops! There goes every tenet of the Church again! (This is why I could not give less of a shit as to what your church “teaches”, because if they don’t practice what they preach, it’s basically the same as not teaching it at all.)
- Catholic Churches are exempt from this mandate. Oops! There goes that old lie about your freedom of religion being violated again!
If you want your religion to supercede everyone else’s rights, you are more than welcome to move to a place where Catholicism is the state religion. Until then, your religion doesn’t exist in a vacuum. It exists in a secular state with laws that govern private industry to protect the health care of millions of women.
So if you are really saying that I need to go to Sunday school for ten years before saying, “Hey, make your religion stop infringing on the health care law that I and millions of others have been fighting for and so desperately need”, I’m sorry, but that is BULLSHIT. My freedom to swing my fist only goes until it hits your chin. I didn’t start this war, YOUR CHURCH DID.
