Hi everyone! This is my first post on STFU Sexists. I won’t bore you with some long diatribe about my personal political opinions, and I won’t apologize in advance for offending anyone. I want to bring to light (and hopefully bring some humor) to the vast tubes of the Internetz and the sexist trolls hiding in Facebook, Myspace, comments on articles, and anywhere else I can find ‘em.
But this isn’t just about humor. I think we’re (always) at a critical point in women’s rights. Women are still viewed as the weaker sex, and still subservient. A lot of sexism occurs in things that we don’t even notice, but I digress.
I’m not focusing on institutionalized sexism (well, not usually.) I’m focusing on the facepalm, “Did that person REALLY say that” moments of sexism, because those are clearly and often hilariously ignorant and unacceptable.
SOME DISCLAIMERS:
- I am pro Choice. I view anti-choice as anti-woman, because in no situation in our society do we find it acceptable to tell men what to do with their bodies. Yes, this site will focus on reproductive rights being attacked. STFU.
- I am a feminist. No, I will not tolerate the use of words like “feminazi” for the same reason I would not tolerate anyone referring to Martin Luther King as an “afronazi”. STFU.
- I am politically and socially liberal. This will probably, at some point, be obvious to you. If you are going to disagree with me because you fundamentally disagree with me, I welcome your thoughtful arguments. If you are going to disagree with me because “shut up u stup1d b1tch”, well…STFU.
