First things first: losing a child is a terrible and emotional thing and that’s not what I’m grossed out by. What grosses me out is the gender essentialism here. Plenty of sons do that too. Plenty of daughters argue (um, hello, case in point) and love frogs and are sticky. Clearly the Bush household was more concerned with raising children in accordance with strict gender roles and not in accordance with basic human decency. I think it’s pretty clear which is more relevant to not ruining the country.
