'Dilbert' Creator Scott Adams Compares Women Asking for Equal Pay to Children Demanding Candy

“The reality is that women are treated differently by society for exactly the same reason that children and the mentally handicapped are treated differently. It’s just easier this way for everyone. You don’t argue with a four-year old about why he shouldn’t eat candy for dinner. You don’t punch a mentally handicapped guy even if he punches you first. And you don’t argue when a women tells you she’s only making 80 cents to your dollar. It’s the path of least resistance. You save your energy for more important battles.”  -Scott Adams

I love how he almost comes out and says exactly what he actually means, which is, “Women are treated like children and disabled persons because they are incapable of doing things men can”. That’s patently false, and that’s why we’re all pissed that women are getting paid less to do the exact. Same. Things.

What an asshole. Dilbert was mediocre at best, you jackass!

I am not the arbiter of cultural appropriation.

I get that people are curious/concerned, and want my opinion on these things, but you are barking up the wrong tree. I am a college educated atheist white girl from a secular protestant middle class family…the most offensive cultural appropriation I’ve had to deal with in my life is that Disney butchered the Little Mermaid.

I cannot be the one that sits on some pedestal and decides for other cultures what is/isn’t cultural appropriation vs. appreciation. What I reblogged had been previously reblogged by people with native American heritage who found it offensive, and I can completely understand that, and I defended that from a position of privilege.

But for the approximately ten billion asks I got about “What about this? Is x, y, or z cultural appropriation?”, I can’t answer that. If you’re concerned about it, do some research. Talk to someone who is a member of that culture. My blessing on your yoga routine is neither meaningful nor productive.
